'Ghostbusters 3' movie cast news: Sigourney Weaver open to cameo role in reboot

Sigourney Weaver is an actress that has been in many popular films and one of them includes the original "Ghostbusters" back in the 80s. Weaver took on the role of Dana Barrett, the only non-ghost fighting character who was best known of course as the love interest of Mr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray).

With a rebooted version of the film, Weaver couldn't help but reminisce during a recent press conference for the movie "Chappie" in New York. Screen Rant asked her about the new film which will be produced by Paul Feig and based on her replies, she was pretty much excited on what the all-female version of the movie would have to offer.

And of course, Weaver was thrown a question on whether she or any of the original guys would possibly star in the rebooted "Ghostbusters" film. Apparently for now, there is no official word on whether she, as well as other original "Ghostbuster" characters like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis or even Rick Moranis, would be appearing in the new film.

However, being a new and all-female cast, Weaver could be a sensible addition to the new film. For her, even perhaps playing the part of a giant marshmallow woman could be a neat idea.

But it all depends on the creative plans of the writers. The rebooted version will reportedly not exist within the same continuity of the original films, potentially holding back any chances of tying it up with Weaver and the rest.

Though her role as Dana Barrett doesn't seem like a likely scenario, the ghost-angle could make sense. Or perhaps appearing after some years could be neat as well where she could be asked by the new female "Ghostbusters" on previous run-ins the original ghost-fighting team had in the 80s.

The rebooted "Ghostbusters" movie is expected to hit theaters on July 22, 2016.
