"Girl Meets World" season 2 could have served as a series finale for the show but a third season is indeed coming, with the main characters moving on to high school. Speaking with The Wrap, showrunner Michael Jacobs revealed that one of the unresolved plot threads from season 2 will indeed be addressed in season 3.

That remaining plot point revolves around the love triangle involving Riley (Rowan Blanchard), Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) and Lucas (Peyton Meyer). Much of season 2 tackled Riley and Maya's feelings for Lucas and Lucas having to choose between the two girls. By the end, this love triangle remained with Lucas unable to go with either.

Jacobs confirmed that season 3 will finish this story line.

"It will span probably a third to a half of season 3," he explained. "Not as primary focus, but always as an underlying thing in existence for the characters. And then when we bring it up to primary, we will resolve it in a way that shows an answer to a much bigger question, which is, how do young people at this age perceive relationships?"

The showrunner continued to explain that the focus isn't on writing only about teenagers in love but also the deeper aspects such as delving into what a relationship means to people at this age, what their values are and what friendship is in the bigger scope of things.

While the love triangle will play a major role in season 3, the showrunner did confirm that Joshua (Uriah Shelton) will play a big part as well. The character had to be written out of the previous season for some episodes due to Shelton getting into an accident, but now in season 3, many of the important plot points involving his character will take place.

According to Jacobs, Joshua will be at the center of many complications and that his story line will add "texture and growth" to the other characters on the show.

"Girl Meets World" will premiere this spring.
