Two of the main characters of "Girls" have already said goodbye ahead of the show's finale next week.

TV Line reports that Jessa (Jemima Kirke) and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) will not appear in next Sunday's series finale, as posted (and eventually deleted) by star/creator Lena Dunham on Instagram on Monday. Dunham shared three photos of Mamet and Kirk together and the caption confirmed that the penultimate episode was the last for the pair. She went on to thank the two actresses for the "insane Hepburn/Tracy Laverne/Shirley energy" they brought to the series "that just made us laugh so hard and feel so much."

Sunday's "Goodbye Tour" episode saw Shoshanna happily announce her engagement as she disconnected herself from the gang. During the engagement party, Jessa reached out to Hannah (Dunham) and apologized for everything she did. The hour concluded with the four girls dancing, though not with each other.

Since its debut in 2012, "Girls" has become a huge hit as it follows a group of friends in their early 20s who are all trying to find their place in the world. After living in New York for two years, an aspiring writer and her three friends attempt to make sense of what life has in store for them. Now that the cast is nearer to their 30s, Dunham has decided that it is the perfect time to lay her TV characters to rest.

With the show coming to an end, some fans are still hoping that a "Girls" reunion movie or sequel will be produced in the future. Dunham recently spoke with The Guardian and she said she would be open to do a follow-up for the HBO program.

"We've always said we would never push aside the idea of doing a sequel, or a movie," Dunham stated. "We are not sick of our jobs. We understand when it's time to hold 'em and when it's time to fold 'em, but returning to these characters would be an amazing thing. Once the appropriate length of time had passed, we would be all in."

The sixth and final season of "Girls" airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. EDT on HBO.
