Last year, Google and LG collaborated to release the Google Nexus 5X smartphone. However, since last September and October, a software update caused a bug that puts the unit in an endless boot loop. This renders the phone completely unusable, and LG is now reportedly issuing full refunds to affected users.

According to a report from Techno Buffalo, LG had already stopped production on the Nexus 5X, and because of this decision, there are no spare parts to repair the current model. This would make sense given that LG is no longer directly involved with Google, and the latter is focusing on their new phones, the Pixel and Pixel XL.

Since customers cannot send their faulty phone back for a repair, the only solution is to issue a refund, but it is stated that it may take several weeks to arrive due to the holidays.

"We have received your device at our repair facility but currently a part to complete the repair is out of stock and is no longer available," reads an email that has been sent to affected consumers. "To rectify this issue, we would like to offer you a refund for the full amount of your device. That amount will be determined by your sales receipt," it went on to say.

The LG V10 and the G4 also suffered from boot loop bugs, but their owners were not offered the same refund. Despite this, the report points out that Google handled the issue very well, and this guarantees affected Nexus 5X owners that they will be able to avail of a new phone relatively soon.

Google's method of dealing with the issue has been compared by enthusiasts to the method Samsung handled the problems with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The Note 7 had faulty batteries, and the problem was still present even after Samsung recalled the phone and gave consumers an alleged better battery, but this also experienced issues.
