Just like an anxious Meredith wrestling with the possibility that her husband is somewhere out there, cold and lifeless, fans of "Grey's Anatomy" are not ready to see Dr. Shepherd die. In episode 21 of the medical drama, the very similar mishap that took Meredith's sister away has spared Derek.

Meredith is growing more and more apprehensive as Derek does not answer any of her phone calls. As it turns out, the neurosurgeon is not dead as everyone fears but is alive, saving others who will not be without his help. His great courage to save victims in a fatal car accident he witnessed will be shown in the upcoming installment very aptly titled "How to Save a Life."

In the promotional clip for this week's exciting episode, Derek's surgical skills will be the saving grace for a group of teenagers who are involved in the car crash. He is seen reassuring the wounded minors that he "won't let people die." It remains to be seen how far Derek can go in saving a big pack of them.

There are earlier reports suggesting that Derek will be killed off in this installment. According to some reports, show creator Shonda Rhimes, who wrote the episode, is allegedly determined to take out actor Patrick Dempsey from the series because of his "diva" attitude. However, this is easily debunked with Dempsey's character even made to play as a hero.

For now though, fans can breathe as the assurance of an alive and well Derek is here. While on it, they might as well worry for Meredith, who has been in a state of panic after hearing about the plane crash in Seattle. Realizing her husband missed his important meeting in Washington, D.C triggers her Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Derek failing to answer the phone isn't helping.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 11 episode 21 "How to Save a Life" airs on April 23.
