'Grey's Anatomy' season 12 update: Next season not the last

If there is one thing that ABC President Paul Lee can confirm about the upcoming 12th season of Shonda Rhimes' "Grey's Anatomy," it is "absolutely not" the final season of the long-running medical drama.

During a press interview to announce the network's series lineup for the upcoming 2015-2016 season, Lee said that "Grey's Anatomy" has a very passionate audience, and that the show possesses a powerful and energetic trademark since it was first aired in 2005.

The network executive also expressed his admiration for the series creator, saying, "Grey's Anatomy' is written by one of the best writers in television. I know she has great plans for next season and many years beyond."

Meanwhile, fans are still nursing their broken hearts after the much-loved character Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) was killed off, leaving Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) extremely hurt. But it does not mean that there is no more heartbreak before the season draws to a close.

E! News reported that another couple will be breaking up during the season 11 finale airing this week. According to the report, Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) will be calling it quits after enduring the toughest scenario that could ever happen to new parents.

April had to go through labor induction during her pregnancy due to their baby's extremely rare bone disease, but the couple lost their first-born son after. This prompted April to look for her real purpose in life again, which she found in the army. She volunteered to help take care of the sick troops overseas, leaving Jackson home in Seattle. Her constant absence makes Jackson miss her more, but when she comes back home, she feels that her calling is really in serving the soldiers abroad. This could signify the end of their marriage.

Will Jackson and Avery break up completely, or can they mend their broken relationship in season 12?

The release date of "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 is expected to be announced soon.
