'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' release date, cast rumors: Mark Hamill to get a role in upcoming sequel?

It looks like Mark Hamill is spending his days as a retired Jedi master in another galaxy far far away, as popular demand strives for the veteran science fiction (sci-fi) actor to be part of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."

Recently a Hamill fan has suggested to "Guardians of the Galaxy (Vols. 1, 2 and 3)" director James Gunn that his idol "Star Wars" star be included in the cast for the upcoming third sequel. To this Gunn responded positively, fueling delight in fans of both sci-fi franchises. For those who have been living under a rock, Hamill is best known to be the actor for Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" franchise and is definitely no stranger to sci-fi movies.

Gunn stated as a response that "I think [Hamill] lives around the corner from me in Malibu so he can just come over and we can talk about it over a cup of coffee." This means Gunn is seriously considering Hamill as a cast member of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and the possibility is strong with this one.

Meanwhile, Hamill replied with "I would be happy to do so, both as a good neighbor & an unemployed actor." Though it would have done the fanbase a favorable surprise if the two resorted to private messages or Twitter direct message (DM) instead of unceremoniously announcing a casting deal. Though it certainly is a nice assurance that the two did it out in the open.

The two went on about sending each other DMs if they're serious about it, though both of them apparently did not know how DMs work, with Hamill comically ending the conversation with "Just followed you. Is that how DM's work?"

It is worth noting that both "Star Wars" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" are both owned by Disney now, meaning Hamill would simply need to cross over to a neighbor franchise without much dispute. Still, fans may want to hold their breaths and keep an eye out for this one, as nothing is certain for now regarding Hamill's inclusion in the cast of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
