Hardcore players of one of the most popular shooter title franchises for the Xbox were in for a treat this month as it was reported that those who were actively playing "Halo 5: Guardians" will get free Req Packs for the holidays.

According to a tweet from developer 343 Industries, "This year we're giving the gift of REQs. Jump into Halo 5 to unwrap your present! Happy holidays to you & yours, from us at 343 Industries."

However, the developer did not disclose what the free Req Packs will contain, but it will surely come from a variety of different in-game items such as emblems, skins, and vehicles. 343 Industries advised players to log on to their accounts on the official "Halo" website to check their unopened packages.

The free holiday Req Packs are in preparation for the holidays. In addition, 343 Industries might also have been paving the way for its next content expansion. Although there was no definite date yet, the announcement on its website mentioned that the next free update will arrive next week. When Cartographer's Gift rolls out, it will unlock a number of new Reqs, weapons, armor, and emblems. Aside from the new in-game items, "Cartographer's Gift" will also add new features for "Halo 5: Guardians" players, such as new maps for Forge, Arena, Warzone, social playlists, and Seasons.

In addition to celebrating the holidays with free gifts and new expansion content, "Halo 5: Guardians" players may also check out the best fireteams compete against one another as the Halo World Championship is currently ongoing.

Different fireteams from around the world compete for the highest prize to date for the tournament – up to $2 million. Teams from North America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and other parts of the world will play online against one another, with the finals happening in March.
