'Hannibal' season 3 updates: Francis Dolarhyde becomes new menacing villain

"Hannibal" season 3 vows not to take it slow with the gore. That's the psychological-thriller's foundation and its lead character loves things brutal, and him being a doctor makes it even more ominous.

Hannibal Lecter, however, may take a break from the spotlight during the bloodthirsty show's third run, only to give way to the new villain in town who calls himself the Tooth Fairy. He certainly is more bloodcurdling than his name.

As any "Hannibal" fan knows, season 3 will be run with the premise of the book "Red Dragon," which talks a lot about Francis Dolarhyde and all his atrocities. For him to take the bigger villain stage from the sadistic doctor though, Hannibal Fannibals think that the new season will show more of Will Graham, which, from what Hannibal did to him, is soon to be a goner.

Nonetheless, the Tooth Fairy will make his presence felt in the series and according to reports, he will do so in the latter half of season 3.

The season is reported to be split into two parts. The first one, which covers seven out of all thirteen "Hannibal" episodes will follow the doctor's grisly escapades in Italy, and the fate of Will, Jack and Alana who were last seen all on their last legs. As the three do their "deadly dance," things take a "startling and unexpected" turn and it will be something life-changing.

Once the eighth episode kicks in, it will be high time for the Tooth Fairy to show up. This will also touch on Hannibal's incarceration, which is vital to Dolarhyde's monumental step as the show's potential major player.

Just to complicate things for "Hannibal" fans, showrunner Bryan Fuller will be setting up season 3 in four different timelines. No matter how messed up that may be, the important thing to keep in mind is that the doctor could never let go of his "insatiable appetite," even if he is in Italy under a new identity.

The floors will run red in summer as "Hannibal" season 3 returns on June 4.
