Tent crusade evangelist T.L. Lowery, who spent 70 years of his life in the Pentecostal ministry, met his Creator last Sunday. He was 87.

According to Charisma News, Lowery became a Christian on New Year's Day back in 1943 when he was only 13 years old. Over a decade after he accepted Jesus Christ into his heart, Lowery served as a pastor to four congregations, got married to his sweetheart Mildred, and became a father to son Stephen.

He decided to become a full-time evangelist when they were living in Galax, Virginia. Lowery spent the next 15 years travelling all over America and the rest of the world to proclaim God's Word. Throughout his lifetime, Lowery managed to visit every state in the U.S. as well as 115 countries.

According to the T.L. Lowery Global Foundation website, Lowery "became synonymous with spiritual power, fire-from-heaven sermons and miraculous healings."

He made Cleveland, Tennessee his home base for worldwide evangelism in 1958 and moved his family there. He later became a pastor for the North Cleveland Church of God, one of the oldest continuing Pentecostal churches in the world.

"He accepted this call of God and built the present sanctuary and the North Cleveland Towers, a senior citizens apartment complex. In 1981, God quickened his spirit and placed a burden on his heart for the nation's capital – a church in Washington, D.C. During his pastorate in Washington (1981-1996), Lowery's leadership placed the National Church of God on a trajectory that would catapult its influence in and around the nation's capital, guiding the congregation through numerous building programs, establishing community ministries, exponential growth, the construction of a 4,000-seat sanctuary, and the construction of 410 apartments for the elderly and median income families," his ministry said.

His wife Mildred passed away last March.

His son Stephen said Lowery finally transitioned "from the church militant to glory, the church triumphant."

"At 87, my Dad recently celebrated 70 years of ministry. He has been an evangelist, pastor, author, friend, mentor, and father. But, most of all, he was an ambassador of the Kingdom of God," he said in a statement. "We, of course, do not have arrangements in place. As soon as we do, they will be posted. Please pray for our strength and wisdom."

Aside from his ministry, Lowery also spent 16 years working for the Church of God International Executive Committee and 34 years on the International Executive Council. He also got involved with the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), and the Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches of North America (PCCNA).
