Earlier this month, "Heroes Reborn" aired its season 1 finale with a cliffhanger that allows for more stories should NBC decide to renew the show for another season.

In the episode, which aired on Jan. 21, the heroes have saved the world and three months later, Otomo is training Miko and Ren, while Carlos, Jose, and Farah have banded together to fight crime. Nathan and Emily's relationship is going strong, while Malina has finally reintegrated into society and is attending Union Wells High School.

The episode ended with Nathan and Malina receiving tarot cards, and Angela told them that this was their father's calling card and that the cards meant that he was coming for them and no one would be able to protect them.

Despite a promising storyline for a second season, it looks like fans will just have to watch reruns of the 13-episode reboot and the original series to satiate their craving for more "Heroes" action.

Ahead of the finale, NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour that "Heroes Reborn" will not be returning for a second installment.

"As far as I know there are no more incarnation of 'Heroes' coming," Greenblatt said (via Variety). The executive reiterated that it was "always the plan" to just air one season of the show. Prior to its premiere last year, the show was touted to be an event miniseries and the follow-up to the original series gained a lot of interest as 6.1 million viewers tuned in for the September premiere.

However, the reboot appeared to lack the appeal of "Heroes" as the Jan. 7 midseason return had a total of only 3.7 million viewers.

However, Greenblatt said that there is hope for fans, saying that the series is possibly done "unless [series creator] Tim [Kring] woke up one day and said, 'Oh, I have another chapter to tell.'"
