"Heroes Reborn" attempted to revive the original success of the "Heroes" television series. Unfortunately, the show received mixed to negative reviews from critics and viewers alike, and NBC declared they were not moving forward with the second season. That statement now appears more solidified than before with further updates from NBC.

During the Television Critics Association panel last August (via IGN), NBC executives Jennifer Salke and Robert Greenblatt both stated that the show failed to live up to expectations.

"I don't think Heroes performed the way we hoped it would perform," Salke expressed during the panel.

Greenblatt further supported this statement when he pointed out that "Heroes Reborn" struggled and one big cause was the lack of original cast members. Jack Coleman did return but some of the big draws like Zachary Quinto, Adrian Pasdar, and Hayden Panettiere did not come back for the revival series.

Game N Guide further reports that if the show were to be renewed now, almost a year after season 1 ended, and the show officially canceled by executives, it would have to be a reboot of some sorts in order to work. Series creator Tim Kring would need to write up a reboot that still tied to the original series in order to grab the attention of old fans while still attract those new to the franchise.

However, interest in the series appears to have waned following the poor execution of "Heroes Reborn." A petition to get the show renewed for season 2 was launched on Change.org, but even that failed to reach a minimum of 100 signatures in the allotted time period, indicating audiences are not interested.

While this does not necessarily mean the show is over, it does signify a reboot or proper continuation may not be released in the near future. As of the time being, "Heroes Reborn" season 2 is not going to happen.
