Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) will be leaving behind the CIA in the upcoming season of "Homeland."

During the thriller TV series' press stint at the PaleyFest, series creator Alex Gansa shared the biggest plot shocker for "Homeland" season 5.

"Carrie will no longer be an intelligent officer," Gansa said

The showrunner also mentioned that the new season will have a two-and-a-half year time jump, and it will have an entirely different setting compared to the last season, since it will be shot in Germany.

Award-winning actress Claire Danes also shared some details for the upcoming season during the press conference held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. According to Danes, Carrie will have an entirely new career, and joked that "she's making beer and sausage."

The time jump element is not a surprise for "Homeland" fans since the show has done it in the past. Back in season 3, Carrie was barely pregnant with her child with the late Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis). When season 4 came, Carrie has already given birth, but she left her child back in the U.S. to fight terrorists in the Greater Middle East.

But even if Carrie is no longer a part of the CIA, it does not mean that she will not be involved in any kind of political scandal. However, the lead character will also have to deal with her relationship with her daughter in the coming season.

"There are very, very few representations of motherhood that are at all controversial on television, and I know personally it's a very complex experience. I don't know if there is a greater taboo than an unloving mother," Danes said

"Homeland's" stint during this year's PaleyFest opened the event that focused on TV shows. Gansa and Danes were joined by the Emmy Award-winning drama's writer's pool, including Patrick Harbinson, Alex Cary, Meredith Stiehm and Chip Johannessen.

"Homeland" season 5 will start filming this May, with the first episode expected to to be aired this fall.
