Spy thriller "Homeland" is set to introduce a couple of characters to add to its complex storylines.

According to Variety, Sandrine Holt is set to appear in the Showtime spy thriller. Holt previously appeared in the early seasons of the political drama "House of Cards." The actress will join "Homeland's" seventh season in an undisclosed role. She will reportedly be seen in at least two episodes with the option to have a recurring appearance. Showtime is keeping mum on the details of Holt's role in the series, but insiders say that her character will be important this season.

While a new face joins the show, another is set to make a comeback. "Homeland" is slated to bring back Lesli Margherita for also a recurring role in season 7. Margherita previously appeared in one episode of the show last season. She played the role of Sharon, who was a loyal character to Brett O'Keefe played by Jake Weber.

Season 7 is expected to focus on the head-on collision between Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and President Elizabeth Kean (Elizabeth Marvel) as each woman tries to exert her dominance over the other. The upcoming season is also set to highlight Keane's growing paranoia against what she perceives are her enemies and this could be a factor in her possible downfall. In the final episode of the show's sixth season, Carrie is seen gazing at the capitol, probably mulling her return to the intelligence community.

"Homeland's" creator Alex Gansa has said before that they have plans for Carrie to complete dangerous missions aside from putting the fire out inside the nation. He added that the task they have now is getting Carrie back into the intelligence community. The series creator also said that Carrie has been out of the game for so long and storylines about her time out of the intelligence community have been exhausted and it's now time for her to go back to her roots.

"Homeland" is set to air its seventh season in January 2018.
