While fans are still waiting to hear more details about the fifth season of "House of Cards" from Netflix, novelist Michael Dobbs revealed that a spin-off could be possible even without Kevin Spacey's character Frank Underwood.

In an interview with Express UK, the 67-year-old author of the novels with the same title said that they are considering all options for the fate of the show.

"That is a very interesting question and one that we are putting our minds to actively because every show comes to a natural end," Dobbs said.

"So is there life in the long term?" the author also stated. "Well, it's a hell of a brand. It's been going now for 30 years: it was a success as a book, it was a success as a BBC television series, it is a huge success as a U.S. series."

Speculations about Frank's death emerged when Frank's health condition worsened in season 4. And based on Dobb's novels and the U.K. version of the series, Spacey's character will definitely meet his end in season 5.

Aside from the possible plans for the spin-off of the series, the author also revealed that other countries are also planning to adapt the novels for their own versions of the TV series. "There are plenty of people from other parts of the world who want to make their version of House of Cards, which we're talking with," Dobbs said. "We'll see what happens with those. It is a global brand, so the question arises: what do we do with a global brand?"

Other speculations about "House of Cards" season 5 claimed that Frank's estranged wife Claire (Robin Wright) will play a very significant role in Frank's presidency in season 5. Will she follow the path of her British counterpart Elizabeth Urquhart (Diane Fletcher) by killing her husband for power?

Netflix has yet to announce the official release date of "House of Cards" season 5.
