Annalise (Viola Davis) is being framed for Wes' (Alfred Enoch) murder. Meanwhile, can Nate (Billy Brown) be trusted?

Previously in "How to Get Away With Murder" season 3, Wes was found dead at an explosion at the Keating house. Wes was last seen at the police station trying to get immunity in exchange for information about Annalise.

According to executive producer Pete Nowalk, Wes being dead doesn't keep Annalise in the clear since it was never really established that Wes was the one who supplied information to the police.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nowalk shares, "She is screwed more than anything. From her point of view, she is being framed for this and it's the worst thing that could have happened."

Nowalk also said that Annalise will trust no one at this point, TV Line reports. Annalise has yet to figure out how Wes and died and who did it, and she can't do much but rely on Bonnie (Liza Weil) while she's stuck in prison.

Meanwhile, Nate has acted suspiciously in the last few episodes of "How to Get Away With Murder" season 3 before the winter break. Nate was constantly and unexpectedly showing up in places, which has yet to be established if that's good or not for Annalise. Also, there are questions about where his loyalty lies since he had a relationship with the A.D.A.

Nowalk told TV Guide, "I think everyone's fair game. There's a lot of people to be accounted for and that's sort of the fun of the back half of the season for me -- scratch off suspects as we go."

Other than the people already in Annalise's circle, she will also have to look out for outside forces as well. They might have made enemies out of the Mahoneys and the A.D.A., which might have connections to Wes' murder.

"Obviously, there's a big investigation going on into Annalise. And it's no coincidence that Wes just happened to testify against the Mahoneys the episode before he died. They both played a pivotal role," Nowalk explained.

"How to Get Away With Murder" season 3 returns on January 19, 2017.
