Those who have been itching to get their hands on "Hunt: Showdown" can sign up to be a part of its closed alpha phase on Jan. 31 for PC.

"Starting on January 31st, a select group of PC gamers will be able to play Hunt: Showdown regularly as part of the game's Closed Alpha testing phase, via Steam," read the official announcement.

"During Closed Alpha, the Hunt team will be testing gameplay, balancing, and backend functionality, as well as collecting feedback from the community. Closed Alpha testers will be randomly chosen from the sign-up list, and those chosen will receive an email invite."

Hunt was initially announced in 2014 as the spiritual sequel to "Darksiders" and originally named as "Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age." However, due to Crytek USA shutting down, the game was scrapped until it was revived by Crytek headquarters and re-announced as "Hunt: Showdown" in May 2017.

It's likely that the alpha testing for the gaming title would be the only time players may get their hands on the game this year. "Closed alpha will be our first chance to get player feedback, and we are really excited to see how they will interact with the game," said Hunt producer Fatih Özbayram.

"After initial tests with a very limited amount of players, we are planning to invite more and more testers with each phase. This is the first step in building a close relationship with our community and integrating their feedback into our development process, something we plan on continuing—and intensifying—during early access."

Because of this, the official release date of the title is still unknown, but if everything goes well, Crytek might release the game as early as 2019.

Not everyone who signed up for the alpha will get the chance to test the game. Those players who are lucky enough to be selected will receive an email for confirmation.

"Hunt: Showdown" is apparently only available to play on PC.
