Hyundai just announced the recall of 27,700 of its cars in the United States due to the possibility that the car's front coil springs might give in to road salt damage.

The recall includes different models of Hyundai Sonata and Elantra, two of the company's top-selling cars.

The company's statement posted last Friday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety (NHTSA) emphasized that road salt can oxidize the car's front coil springs, which might puncture tires leading to increased risk of accidents. 

Road salt is usually applied on roads during winter to control snow and ice from covering the roads.

The Elantra models that are part of the recall are those manufactured from November 2010 to March 2011.

On the other hand, Sonatas included in the recall are those manufactured from December 2009 to February 2010.

All the affected models were sold in the Salt Belt, which include the states Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Washington, D.C.

The recall will start on Nov. 30; the company said owners will be notified and dealers will provide replacement for the coil springs without charge.

Fortunately, no incidents related to the coil springs have been reported.

Last month, Hyundai also recalled 470,000 Sonatas that were made from 2011 and 2012 that have two-liter and 2.4-liter engines. The recall was issued to replace critically defective engine parts.

Dealers will check on the cars for defective engines and will replace them for free. The company reportedly stated that the replacement will increase the engine's miles, according to USA Today. Hyudai will notify owners of vehicles possibly affected by this particular concern by Nov. 2 and the recall will begin once the replacement parts are available.

So far, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to this specific issue.
