IBS Promotes Bible-Reading among Children in Latin America
The International Bible Society (IBS), in partnership with Compassion International, have launched a four-year children’s Bible-reading initiative in Latin America, a latest press release unveiled. It is expected to benefit more than 100,000 children, ages 5-7, in ten Latin American countries.
With a vision to educate the younger generation in Latin America with Christian values through promoting Bible-reading, the initiative called Aventuras biblicas has developed. A monthly reader with the same name will be published, featuring a selected Bible story and study aids that include questions, activities, and games. The publication will effectively present God’s Word to children registered in Compassion’s sponsorship programs in Latin America.
"The goal of Compassion’s ministry is to release children from poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults. Equipping children at a young age with an understanding of the Bible is an excellent foundational step in nurturing their relationship with God," said Dr. Wess Stafford, President and CEO of Compassion International.
"Aventuras biblicas creatively introduces children to the most important resource of Scripture knowledge," he added.
Aventuras biblicas also provides a family activity and a story of another Compassion child in a different part of the world. The readers are generally used in classroom settings, with leaders from Compassion’s church partners facilitating the lessons, the press release stated.
IBS President Peter Bradley said, "Reaching children with the Word of God is a ministry priority for IBS. We are eager to share Aventuras biblicas with children in need throughout Latin America. Children participating in Compassion’s program will now be able to learn the Bible’s story of God’s continuing love and share it with their families."
Compassion International, based in the US, is one of the nation’s largest child development organisations, working with more than 65 denominations and many indigenous church partners in Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Since 1952, Compassion has touched the lives of more than a million children.
The International Bible Society, founded in 1809, faithfully translates and reaches out with God’s Word so that people around the world may become disciples of Jesus Christ and members of His Body.
