'Insidious: Chapter 3' trailer brings on fright among fans as deeper story about The Further emerges

Just in time for the horror season and right before the Halloween celebrations, Focus Features has unveiled its first teaser for "Insidious: Chapter 3."

The upcoming film is the first movie that writer Leigh Whannell has directed.  He is known for his work on three "Saw" films and the first two "Insidious" flicks alongside director and franchise co-creator James Wan.

Set to premiere in spring, "Insidious: Chapter 3" has been making early preparations as it hits theaters on May 29, 2015.

The movie follows the story of a teenage girl played by Stefanie Scott who becomes the target of a supernatural being from a realm known as The Further, prompting her family to seek the aid of gifted psychic Elise Rainier, portrayed by Lin Shaye.

Shaye, Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell will be returning to the upcoming installment and reprising their roles from the first two films, while Scott and Dermont Mulroney join the lineup as new cast members.

The first chapter of "Insidious" raked in $97 million in the global box office despite a $1.5 million budget. Its sequel, "Insidious 2" was developed at a total budget worth $5 million and grossed a whopping $161 million worldwide.

The "Insidious" series centers on a couple haunted by demons after their child went into a coma and became a "portal" for ghosts.

To be distributed by Sony Pictures worldwide, "Insidious: Chapter 3" is produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions alongside returning producer Oren Peli and Wan. The film is executive produced by Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Steven Schneider, Charles Layton, and Xavier Marchand.

Wan, who previously directed not only the past two "Insidious" movies but also "Fast & Furious 7" and "Saw," has reportedly been signed on to work on a new project for DC Entertainment. He will also take on directorial duties for "The Conjuring 2" following the considerable success of the low-budget horror film.
