The next generation of the 9.7-inch iPad Air, the iPad Air 3, may be coming sometime in March of 2016 according to new reports.

Alphr shares that there is a high probability that Tim Cook will be unveiling the latest iteration of the super thin version of the iPad as the Apple CEO has used that period of the month to make other big announcements before. Last year, Cook brought to the public the MacBook retina in March.

In last September's big unveiling event by the company, Apple fans were expecting to get an announcement of the iPad Air 3 along with the launch of the larger iPad Pro. However, Apple took the occasion to unveil instead the fourth generation of the iPad Mini, and the iPad Air 3 was nowhere in sight. Since then, talks have been circulating about the possibility of never seeing an iPad Air 2 successor ever again.

Last month, Apple Insider reported a tip given by tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities stating that the iPad Air 3 would definitely be happening. Kuo further stated that the iPad Air 3 would sport 3D touch capabilities and also said that the next generation thin tablet from Apple would also be unveiled around March 2016.

Other specs rumors surrounding the arrival of the iPad Air 3 include an A9X chip processor, which will be Apple's most powerful SoC to date. The tablet will also sport a 9.7-inch 4k display with a pixel density of up to 401 pixels per inch and still remain at a 4:3 screen ration.

Reports also indicate that the Air 3 will even become much thinner, measuring a thickness of 5 mm, compared to the 6.1 mm thickness of the existing model.

Chinese website My Drivers indicates that if the iPad Air 3 will indeed be unveiled on March of this year, the device could hit markets some time in October.
