The iPhone X made a huge impact last year by being the first in Apple's flagship series to sport an all-screen display. Although, some users would argue otherwise, as there is one small feature in the iPhone X that quite affects the appeal of its front display. The so-called notch on the top portion of the screen is said to be the iPhone X's biggest turn off, and based on the recent reports, the Cupertino-based tech firm is looking for a solution to reduce its size to the point that it will be negligible to the eyes, just in time for the anticipated iPhone X2 launch this year.

ET News has gathered another insider scoop regarding the 2018 iPhone device, which suggests that Apple is trying to figure out the way to greatly minimize the scope of the notch in the iPhone X. The South Korean tech publication claims that the company has already teamed up with LG Innotek to remove the features currently present in the iPhone X, particularly the Face ID sensors. Once this is achieved, the notch of the future iPhone X2 2018 will have its width reduced.

However, 9to5Mac noted that removing a few sensors from the notch will be very challenging. It is rumored that the sensors will be combined with the front-facing RGB camera of the iPhone X2 2018 so that the notch size will be reduced. The Face ID technology of the iPhone X includes a dot projector, a flood illuminator, and an infrared camera, all of which are housed within the notch.

If ever Apple succeeds in combining the infrared camera for facial recognition and the standard RGB camera, the scope of the notch in the display will decrease, but it is still enough to entirely remove the notch out of the iPhone X2 and be rightly called an all-screen device. Other contents within the iPhone X notch include the proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, speaker, and microphone, and these will likely remain in the notch area of the iPhone X 2018, thus the users may have to wait a little longer to witness the demise of the infamous iPhone X notch.

The iPhone X2, otherwise dubbed as the iPhone XI or iPhone 11, is expected to launch in Fall during Apple's keynote event.
