Robert Downey Jr. will portray the iconic role of dashing billionaire-playboy-turned-superhero "Iron Man" for the seventh time in "Captain America: Civil War," but it might also be the last time he would do it.

During USA Today's set visit in the upcoming "Civil War" film, Downey revealed that doing "Iron Man 4" is a good idea but mentioned that it might not be a possibility at the moment.

"I don't think that's in the cards," the actor claims.

In a 2015 Empire Magazine interview, the actor mentioned that his age might hinder him from portraying the role in another "Iron Man" film, according to Screen Rant. But in the USA Today interview, Downey admitted that "Captain America: Civil War" could be considered as "Iron Man 4."

"In a way it's 'Cap 3' but for me it's like my little 'Iron Man 4' and then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an 'Avengers' thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes," the actor said.

Based on the Marvel Comics series, Captain America and Iron Man will be at odds with each other after the two Avengers did not meet eye to eye because of a new government policy. This divided the group into two opposite factions. But unlike the comic series where Iron Man was vilified, Downey assures fans that his character will not be the ruthless enemy.

"If we're going to go there, then we've got to save it for my swan song. I would still like to keep a general audience and mildly be in their favor somehow," the actor said.

At the moment, Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures have yet to announce if there are plans to make "Iron Man 4" with Downey or if they will tap a new actor to fill in his role in the series.
