Japan and Greece will contest a tense match in Group C on Thursday, with both knowing anything less than a win will likely result in their ultimate elimination from World Cup 2014.

Japan will be disappointed to be where they are right now in Group C. Their game against the Ivory Coast got off to the perfect start when they managed to score an early goal.

However, they imploded in the second half, conceding two goals within the space of less than 100 seconds to lose 1-2.

It has become a familiar theme for Japan to lose their grip on games in the second half. During last summer's Confederations Cup, they conceded 7 of their 9 goals in the second half.

Meanwhile, Greece had an even more difficult time in their opening game, losing 0-3 to Colombia. They never really got going in that game, and they will hope they can hit the reset button and come out a revived team for today's crunch game.

Coach Fernando Santos has said that he thought the 0-3 result sounded worse than it was. Also forward Georgios Samaras said, "Everyone expected we would have 11 men behind the ball, but I think what they saw was a team that likes to attack. That philosophy will not change... We created chances against Colombia and that's something we can't forget."
