After nine years, Jason Bourne returns to the big screen for the fifth installment of the "Bourne" movie franchise as Matt Damon reprises his iconic role as the trained assassin. The upcoming movie is now officially titled "Jason Bourne."

The Oscar Award-winning actor revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he waited for the right time before he agreed to revisit the "Bourne" franchise. Damon said while they all wanted to come up with a continuation to the franchise, they needed to find a good story to tell.

"We were really happy with the three films and if we were going to do another one, we wanted it to fit in with the three films in terms of quality," the actor said.

The plot of the film had been a top secret since its development was announced in September 2014. The production started on September 2015, and filming took place in different places around the world such as London, England, and Kreuzberg in Berlin, Germany. The film was also shot at the Constitution Gardens in Washington, D.C. and in Las Vegas, Nevada. The production concluded in early February.

In another interview with Entertainment Weekly, Damon revealed that "Jason Bourne" will show his character's quest to know the truth about himself and his past.

"It's less that he has some kind of greater mission or ulterior movie, and more that he's always trying to get to the truth about himself and his origins, and how he got to be where he is," the actor said. "It's not like he has the superhero skills to go stop a train from crashing into a building."

Aside from Damon, Julia Stiles will also reprise her role as logistics technician Nicky Parsons. They will be joined by new cast members, including Tommy Lee Jones as CIA superior officer Robert Dewey, Vincent Cassel as the assassin who will track down Bourne, and Alicia Vikander in a still-unspecified role.

"Jason Bourne" is set to premiere on July 29, 2016.
