'Jessica Jones' season 2 spoilers news: Season 2 to deal with Jessica's trauma; Misty Knight to drop in for a visit

Amid positive reviews about the first season of Netflix's "Jessica Jones," showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has promised that the second season will continue to chronicle Jones' (Krysten Ritter) struggles to overcome her personal challenges now that Kilgrave is finally out of the picture.

"She was kind of messed up even before Kilgrave came along, and so in Season Two we can explore what's possible for her moving forward," said Rosenberg.

The showrunner also assured fans who admired how the show handled Jessica Jones' struggles — such as having to cope with abduction, rape, and being held hostage inside her own body — by saying that the character will still have to cope with the trauma but will not be completely fixed. Still, she explained that this will add more layers to the story.

"I learned from working on Dexter that you can advance the character, but you never want to cure the character. With Dexter, the moment he felt guilt or accepted that he was 'bad,' the show's over. He's no longer a sociopath. The equivalent for us would be if Jessica somehow recovered from the damage that had been done to her. People don't just heal, you don't go through that just to say, 'Oh, he got arrested, he's in jail, I'm OK now.' Kilgrave's fate was a little more final than a jail sentence, but the same principle applies for Jessica. That trauma is a huge part of who she is now," she added.

The second season is also set to delve deeper into Jessica's relationship with her adopted sister Trish (Rachael Taylor), which many viewers mistook as a romantic one before their backstories were explored.

Also expected to add more girl power to the show is Misty Knight (Simone Missick), who has been spotted filming for Netflix's "The Defenders." With the two women forming a connection in the superhero series, it is likely that Misty could pop in for a visit in Jessica Jones' second season.

In a separate interview with EW, Rosenberg said that Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie — her colleagues who are in charge of "The Defenders" — have shared material with her. She added that the three of them talked several times about their plans and what Jessica's future will be like.

Ramirez and Petrie wanted her input, since both believe that the comments from different showrunners will help shape the characters who will star in their respective shows. Rosenberg concluded that Marvel was "very smart in hiring" Ramirez and Petrie, who she says are collaborative people.
