Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard pregnancy: Couple say they're 'open to adoption' and 'as many children as God will give us'
Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard are getting ready for the arrival of their first child in March and announced this week they were expecting a baby boy.
News of the gender surprised them because their own guess was that they were expecting a girl.
They stopped by Fox and Friends today to talk some more about their growing family, confirming that the cameras will be following them throughout the pregnancy for the next series of TLC's hit reality show 19 Kids and Counting.
Jill shared this fun picture of them in the studio on her Instagram.
They joked that the baby could be a giant, as Derick was 9lb 2 ounces when he came into the world and couldn't even fit into newborn clothes but already had to wear size 2s.
Asked if they would have 19 kids too, Jill beamed as she said: "We'll wait and see. We are open to as many children as God will give us. We're also open to adoption. Derek's momma was adopted."
While Jill has 18 brothers and sisters, Derick has just one sibling and admitted it was a bit of a "culture shock" to marry one of the Duggar clan.
But they both agreed they would have plenty of babysitters when their little one arrives in the spring.
In the short interview, Jill also praised her new hubby as a "man of character" and advised girls to ask the "deep questions" and get to know the person's heart before thinking about marriage.
"I asked a lot of questions," she said. "Being upfront is important. You can have fun, you can go on dates. But getting to the deep questions ahead of time [is important]."
Jill has been keeping fans well updated on the progress of her pregnancy and so far it seems to going smoothly, with just a little morning sickness in the first trimester and a weird craving for cold food.
They're excited to be in the second trimester, with things feeling more settled.
Speaking to People.com on Tuesday, Derick said he was "really excited" to be expecting a little boy.
"As a new dad, to have a firstborn son to be our first child and be the leader of his siblings, it is very special," he said.
He added: "I was praying for a big, healthy baby."
