The long awaited rematch between reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones could be out in the coming days.

Such was revealed no less by UFC vice president for public relations Dave Sholler when he was in discussions at UFC on Fox 18 in New Jersey recently.

The match is something fans are eager to see with Jones seeking to regain the title he technically never lost inside the Octagon.

Jones was stripped of the title following his arrest in April for a hit-and-run incident. Cormier eventually won the title when he defeated Anthony Johnson at UFC 187.

For Cormier, the upcoming bout is a chance at redemption. Even though he is champion, Jones was the one who dealt him his only defeat during UFC 182 by unanimous decision.

The only thing different from UFC 182 is that Cormier holds the title and not Jones. And apparently, Jones wants it back.

The rematch was earlier believed to be happening at the Madison Square Garden in New York on April 23, but a judge denied the injunction by the UFC. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is banned in the state.

With that, the much awaited rematch had to wait, although Sholler is confident that an official announcement will be out soon.

"Things are shaking out, and I think you guys are going to be pleased with the outcome," Sholler said via MMA Junkie.

Jones will be facing the same person he last fought in Cormier. In what seems to be a move to make up for lost time, "Bones" reportedly plans to fight two more fights at 205 pounds after the Cormier match.

If he wins against Cormier, a likely next opponent is Anthony Johnson who recently came up with a first round stoppage of Ryan Bader at UFC on Fox 18. The third fighter he has in mind is reportedly Alexander Gustafsson who made a good account of himself against Jones when they fought in 2013.
