Katy Perry said God spoke to her before Super Bowl performance
Pop singing sensation Katy Perry said that God spoke to her right before her Super Bowl XLIX performance, where she gave a touching rendition of her song "By the Grace of God."
In an interview with E! News host Ryan Seacrest during the 57th annual Grammy Awards, Perry said that prayer really helped give her much-needed confidence during her Super Bowl performance.
"I over prepared myself and did a lot of prayer and meditation," Perry said. "It's funny, I was praying and I got a word from God and He says, 'You got this and I got you.' And then I was on top of the lion and a guy, a random guy, just looked on me with a headset that I've never communicated with before and he just looked me straight in the eyes and said, 'You got this.' And I was like, 'Oh, this is God confirming I can do this.'"
That same day, Perry even tweeted Psalm 118:24, which made people believe that the singer, who earlier said that she is no longer a Christian, is embracing the faith again.
"Today is the day that the Lord has made! I will rejoice and be glad in it," she tweeted to her 64 million Twitter followers.
Her statements and performance were quite a turnaround from her "Dark Horse" performance last year at the Grammy Awards, which apparently prompted Christian singer Natalie Grant to walk out due to its overtly dark imagery.
Perry's expressions of faith are also different from what she recently told GQ: "I believe in a higher power bigger than me because that keeps me accountable. I believe in a lot of astrology. I believe in aliens. I look up into the stars and I imagine: How self-important are we to think that we are the only life-form?" she said.
