Kevin Durant could soon become a member of the Golden State Warriors.

That's one of the hottest rumors going around the National Basketball Association (NBA) lately, and it could reportedly become a reality in the near future.

Rumors about Durant joining the Warriors have been around for a while now, but interest in the matter really began to pick up steam again after Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the defending champions are the "significant frontrunners" to acquire his services as a free agent.

Durant is in the last year of his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and he can choose to sign with any team with sufficient cap space this summer as a free agent.

The thought of Durant joining the Warriors has to be terrifying to the rest of the teams in the NBA.

The Golden State Warriors already have the NBA's best record and are currently hailed as one of the favorites to win the championship again this year.

If Durant can join that already well accomplished team, then there may be no other squad in the NBA that can match up to them.

Word that Durant could be joining the Warriors also has to frighten the team he could potentially leave, and that's why the Thunder may decide to pursue a trade involving the former league Most Valuable Player (MVP) if they do believe he will be signing somewhere else, according to The Inquisitr.

The Thunder may even propose a Durant for Harrison Barnes swap to the Warriors in the hopes that they can secure something of significance instead of just losing their star player for nothing.

At this point though, Durant has not publicly indicated that he will be looking for a new team next season. Durant has yet to reportedly make any kind of decision when it comes to his future, so it's possible that he stays with the Thunder as well.

For now, the Golden State Warriors will focus on winning the title, and so too will Durant and the rest of the Oklahoma City Thunder, but sooner or later, the fates of the two teams may likely cross, and it may lead to a potential move that could alter the NBA landscape for years to come.
