Big game developer Square Enix is still keeping silent on details regarding the debut of the newest title under the "Kingdom Hearts" franchise. However, reports about the likely storyline along with other details about the upcoming game are keeping the hardcore fan community abuzz.

Apparently, one of the key pieces about the third installment of the game was already revealed last year. According to game director Tetsuya Nomura, the end of last year's trailer for "Kingdom Hearts HD Remix 2.5" unveiled at the 2014 E3 convention is actually the opening sequence for "Kingdom Hearts 3." Also, according to a report published by Venture Capital Post, the new game will continue where the Dream Drop Distance game left off. VC wrote that the characters in the previous title, namely Donald Duck, Goofy, Riku, and King Mickey, will be back to help Sora find the seven guardians of light as well as stop the antagonist's plans. The plot reportedly continues with the Key to Return Hearts as a central and important piece in the inevitable final confrontation between Sora and Master Xehanort.

Meanwhile, it seems that Square Enix is planning a big reveal about the game this year. Reports indicate that the game developer behind the successful franchise will be looking forward to unveiling a surprise for their fans at the upcoming D23 Expo, the largest Disney fan event in the world, to be hosted this year by Tokyo Disney Resort and will be held from Aug. 14 to 16.

When asked to reveal more about the upcoming surprise for fans, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda told Japanese site Nikkei, as reported in English by Siliconera, "I believe we'd like to go all out and offer as many things full of fun and surprises. And I'd like for us to maintain a development system that can continuously bring out this 'box of surprises'."
