LA Clippers NBA 2015 news: Paul Pierce targeted by Doc Rivers for new season

Paul Pierce may be planning one last run before he calls it a day in the NBA and the best way to end his storied career could perhaps be under his former coach in Glenn Doc Rivers.

Pierce and Rivers were together along with Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen when they copped the Celts last championship in 2007-2008. Rivers left Boston on June 3, 2013 and eventually took his act to the Clippers while Pierce and Garnett were traded to the Brooklyn Nets 25 days later.

And as everyone knows, Rondo was the last one traded as the athletic guard ended up with the Dallas Mavericks on December 18, 2014.

With a storied past, Pierce joining the Clippers could make sense. The Truth could have joined the Clippers last season but salary issues prevented him from doing so. He eventually went to the Wizards and showed that he still has what it takes to show up during winning time.

Pierce can actually stay with the Wizards since he holds a player option which would guarantee him $5 million next season. This would mean more money for the NBA All-Star forward since a move to Los Angeles could force him to accept a veteran's minimum since the Clips are a bit strapped for cash.

Given those scenarios, it will all entirely be up to Pierce. The first thing he has to do is opt out of the contract and then think of joining Rivers and the Clippers.

Hence, it all boils down now to what is more important to Pierce, assuming he does intend to play one more season – money or a chance to win another (and maybe last NBA title).

The latter seems to make more sense if Pierce will be retiring after next season and the best way to go out is under a coach/friend who knows how to use him.

Will Pierce end up in Los Angeles? The answer to that is left entirely to Paul Pierce since he has the future in his hands.
