The hunter becomes the hunted in the upcoming episode of the long-running NBC series "Law & Order: SVU."

In "Townhouse Incident," the synopsis reveals that Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) will have the unfortunate luck of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She will reportedly find herself in the clutches of some very bad people when she tries to stop a home invasion. The promo for the episode shows the lieutenant severely beaten and tied to a bedpost.

Olivia has the misfortune to visit a house being raided by a group of robbers. It is immediately sure why she is at that particular place. The clip shows her knocking at a door and when the owner, a middle-aged woman answers, she is invited to go inside. When she gets in, a man and a woman greet her at gunpoint. Later on, viewers will see that her face is full of bruises after trying to make short work of the criminals. One of them even looks like he is about to rape her.

Showrunner Warren Leight shared with The Hollywood Reporter several details about Olivia's life-threatening ordeal. In the interview, he said that it would be very difficult for the lieutenant, as she now has a two-year-old waiting at home. Olivia recently adopted Noah and he has quickly become the center of her life. As her life hangs in the balance, she will realize that being a parent changes her perspective of her job.

"It's pretty rough going all the way through. It almost feels like it takes place in real time at gunpoint in the middle of a home invasion so it has a different clock to it. Benson, a little stressed, steps into a hellish nightmare, drops her guard for a nanosecond and there goes, possibly, her life," he said.

Meanwhile, Leight hinted on a possible romance for Olivia in season 17. He said that although the events in episode 11 would haunt her for the rest of her life, it would also be the beginning of something new for her. Someone from the incident will carve a place in Olivia's heart, and it will most likely be Internal Affairs Bureau officer Ed Tucker (Robert John Burke), the negotiator in this case.

"Law & Order: SVU" season 17 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
