Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) is about to start all over again when "The Leftovers" returns for its second season. In the new trailer released by HBO, Kevin and his lover Nora have just moved to Jarden, a small town in Texas that was spared from the mysterious incident from last season which caused the disappearance of more than two percent of the world's population. 

The new trailer shows Kevin and Nora driving to Jarden, and it is revealed that on Oct. 14, people disappeared all over the world except in that area. 

In a church, a preacher says, "We are 9,261, we are spared."

Kevin is heard saying that for the first time in a long time, they feel safe. The couple is shown being welcomed into the community and settling into their new home. However, something happens and there is chaos all throughout the town. Kevin tells Nora that they made a mistake.

Erika Murphy (Regina King) stands up in church and tells everyone, "We're not safe! We are not spared."

Erika's statement reveals that all of a sudden, people start disappearing as well, and it looks like Kevin and everyone else will be facing danger once again in season 2 of the show. 

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "The Leftovers" showrunner Damon Lindelof said that the new season will not be as dark as the first season, and there's a big twist which kicks off the story. Lindelof gave some insight into the new town and what happens when someone disappears from the small Texas town.

"It has a population of over 9,000 and nobody departed," said Lindelof. "But I think the second part of the idea is what would happen if there was a departure?"

He added that in the normal world, people who disappear are presumed to be kidnapped or are thought to have run away, but in Jarden, "in the world that this concept exists, there is a third possibility."

Season 2 of "The Leftovers" premieres on Oct. 4 at 9/8c on HBO.
