During the E3, Nintendo officially confirmed that the new "Legend of Zelda" game for the Wii U and NX is titled "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." The company also confirmed on their website that the game will launch for both platforms by 2017.

The game will be a big departure from previous "Legend of Zelda" games as it takes the open-world genre to new heights. Players will be able to traverse the world in any direction and a report from Polygon confirms that players can even go straight to the final boss without having to go through the game's story.

Puzzles have always been a big part of the franchise and the report states that there will be over 100 "Shrines of Trials" scattered all across the world. Players can guide Link to any of these shrines in any order they please and these shrines will have the puzzles and rewards that are often associated with the series.

New to the series is the ability to jump with the simple push of a button. In previous games Link could jump but this was done automatically whenever the player would run off an edge. Link can also climb walls but this is limited by his stamina bar.

Link will also have Epona and a glider to quickly travel through Hyrule. Link will also need to hunt food in order to replenish his health as Link will no longer be reliant on hearts. Players won't have to worry about starvation and keeping Link fed, however, as only basic survival-genre elements are being implemented.

According to Polygon, players will also have a unique item called the Shieka Slate. This can be used to generate items like bombs, activate special abilities and open a map, allowing players to play the game without the Wii U gamepad. It is further stated that there will be no differences between the Wii U and NX versions.
