Warner Bros. Pictures announced that "The Lego Movie 2" is a go, and while there has been very little information about its theme and story, it has been slotted for a premiere date on May 26, 2017.  Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have stepped forward for the directorial duties, while Dan Lin and Roy Lee will produce.  All of them were behind the success of the first film, "The Lego Movie."

Released last February 7, the first Lego film grossed $468 million in the international box office as of Aug. 21.

Such movie had been drawn out from the highly popular "Lego" toys, the sets of bricks made and distributed by The Lego Group since the 1940s, which allow players to interlock and bind the pieces together.

The Lego Group recently announced that their revenues for the first half of the year increased by 11 percent, which can be attributed to "The Lego Movie" products. As such, it has become the world's biggest toy company in terms of profits and revenues, claiming the number one spot from Mattel Inc., known most especially for its Barbie dolls.

The Danish company, however, has been strongly relying on the sales brought on by the products relating to the box-office hit. It then remains uncertain whether such gains will be carried on until the end of the year, or if it will manage to stay on the to spot until the release of the second installment of the film franchise.

The predecessor of "The Lego Movie 2" follows the story of "The Kragle," a super weapon obtained by the evil Lord Business, voiced by Will Ferrell.  However, a very unlikely hero named Emmet Brickowski, voiced by Chris Pratt, accidentally falls into a hole and comes across the "Piece of Resistance" which is deemed as the main instrument in putting a stop to Lord Business and The Kragle.  With the help of his new-found friends, Emmet unwittingly challenges Lord Business because he had been "called" as the savior of the Lego Universe.
