Lenovo's online-only brand Zuk released its first ever smartphone product called the Zuk Z1 in the Chinese market earlier this month. Recently, Zuk unveiled another device, but this time it's a fully functional prototype smartphone that features transparent display screen.

According to a recent report by NDTV, the new prototype smartphone features an almost bezel-less design and can do most of what today's smartphones can do such as making calls and viewing images on the display screen.

The report adds that one of the images of the new prototype smartphone apparently shows a display screen with a high pixel resolution quality.

Since the phone is just a prototype that reveals what this technology is capable of, it won't be arriving anytime soon in the market. NDTV adds that such a technology could come into being possibly sometime next year, as there is still no technology available that can mass produce these transparent display screens.

Zuk's new display screen technology could take on those of the likes of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. Samsung announced as early as last year its plans to launch new smartphones with folding capability, which might arrive sometime next year.

Also, two years ago during the Consumers Electronics Show (CES), Samsung announced its flexible display technology called "Youm," which utilizes plastic material rather than glass. At the same event, the company also revealed a video that shows the idea of how a smartphone can be unfolded into a tablet device.

On the other hand, LG has also unveiled its own display technology called the "Wallpaper TV," which measures only 1 millimeter thick and weighs about 1.9 kilograms, according to earlier reports. Earlier this month, the South Korean company also unveiled three new TV models that measure 4.8 millimeters thick, which is already thinner than the smartphones used today, according to reports.
