South Korean phone developer LG made a major change in its G series smartphone lineup by creating its first modular phone, the LG G5. However, even though the G5 possesses interesting features due to its modular design, it is said that its successor — the LG G6 — will not be continuing the path of the modular design.

LG launched their first modular phone earlier this year, the LG G5. The G5 was completely different from other smartphones available in the market for it allows its users to switch its parts depending on the user's preference.

Through the G5's modular design, users were able to change their battery capacity, enhance their phone's camera, and even improve the phone's speakers. The G5's modular accessories were called LG friends. The LG friends accessories include the LG Cam Plus, Hi-Fi Plus, and a portable Hi-Fi DAC.

But despite the fresh features of the G5, its modular design will not be applied to the upcoming LG G6. The G5's modular design was said to be too costly for consumers since the LG friends accessories had to be bought separately. Additionally, one report suggest that consumers aren't the only ones having difficulties with the G5's modular parts, as the manufacturers were also struggling with the supply of the G5's add-ons.

On another note, rumors suggest that the upcoming LG G6 will sport a 5.6-inch 4096x2160 high resolution display that fully supports 4K viewing. The G5 successor is also speculated to come with a bendable display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

The new LG G6 is also rumored to sport a 24-megapixel Dual LED 3D camera with auto laser focus coupled with a powerful 7-megapixel front shooter. The phone would also come out of the box with Bluetooth 5.0, a fingerprint and retina eye scanner, wireless charging, and a mini projector.

Furthermore, rumors suggest that the LG G6 will be waterproof and will have an internal memory that can be expandable up to 128 GB via a microSD card. The phone is also speculated to come out running on the latest android OS backed up by 5 GB of RAM and powered by a Snapdragon Qualcomm Octa-core 3.0 GHz processor.

As of now, there is still no official news from LG as to when the phone will be released, but speculations suggest that the G6 will be out in the market sometime in 2017 with a price tag of around $750 USD.
