Earlier this year, LG unveiled a revolutionary device at the Mobile World Congress which grabbed tech fans' attention due to its modular design. Though the LG G5 generated a lot of buzz, the phone did not do as well as expected, as the phone's extra parts weren't enough to make its modular design compelling. Now, reports claim that the next-generation device, the LG G6, could have a major design overhaul, as LG is rumored to eschew the G5's aesthetic in favor of a more traditional design. It was also said that the phone could take its design cues from another LG phone.

Here's a round-up of everything revealed so far about the LG G6.

No modular design for the LG G6

According to Android and Me, industry sources are saying that LG Electronics is planning to scrap its modular design for the G6 due to the G5's low sales. It was said that consumer satisfaction for the device has been low due to the high cost and a lack of necessity for modules at this point. It was claimed that the G6 could take its cues from the LG V20, which has become one of the most in-demand handsets of the year.

• The LG G6 will likely have an iris scanner

After the feature made an appearance on Samsung's latest handsets, it was rumored that the LG could tweak this feature for the G6 by combining the iris recognition camera with the selfie camera in a single module.

• No curved screen for the LG G6

Despite the rumors, Know Your Mobile claims that LG intends to stick to flat screen panels for the upcoming smartphone. It was said that the decision to not include a curved screen in the G6 is due to concerns over supply. LG sources its display panels direct from its subsidiary, LG Display.

• It will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip and 4 to 5 GB of random access memory

Rumors indicate that the LG G6 will either have a Snapdragon 830 central processing unit or a Snapdragon 835 chipset with 4 to 5 GB of RAM. It is expected to run on Android 7.0 Nougat.

• The LG G6 could likely be announced at the 2017 MWC

Tech watchers are expecting the device to be unveiled at the MWC in Barcelona in February 2017.
