LG G7 release date, specs rumors: To include dedicated Google Assistant button in revamped design

After months of speculations about the fate of LG's G series, it is confirmed that the flagship G7 smartphone will arrive next month. The users can expect a lot of changes from the upcoming device compared to its predecessors, due to the fact that the lineup has undergone a major design overhaul. One of the rumored key features of the new LG G7 is a dedicated button for Google Assistant.

The final list of specs and features of the G7 ThinQ will be announced at LG's special launch event in New York City on May 2, although, the latest reports suggest that the flagship will include a button that will activate the Google Assistant upon pressing. The scoop came from CNET, whose source claims to have insider information on the LG G7 production.

The dedicated Google Assistant button of the LG G7 is said to be positioned on the left side of the device, just opposite the power button on the right. The inclusion of this button does not affect the usual location of features already present in the previous LG G6 model, including the rear-faced fingerprint reader.

Just like the LG V30S ThinQ that was presented at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 last February, the upcoming LG G7 will be packed with custom LG commands that the Google Assistant would recognize. Interestingly, this will be the first time that a dedicated Google Assistant button is included in any smartphone.

To note, Google's very own Pixel and Pixel 2 devices do not have such feature. Nevertheless, the first handset to receive a dedicated button to spawn a voice assistant is the Samsung Galaxy S8.

It is not specified if the dedicated Google Assistant button in the LG G7 can be disabled, the same way that Samsung released a special update that allows users to deactivate the Bixby button. Galaxy S8 owners have been complaining about the odd placement of the Bixby button, making them accidentally calling on the voice assistant when they are just trying to unlock the phone.

The LG G7 is also tipped to sport an iPhone X-like notch display measuring up to 6.1 inches. Under the hood, the smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. The LG G7 will receive 16MP dual rear camera, stereo speakers, as well as water and dust resistance feaures.
