The LG V20 is the current smartphone out in the market. Some of its opportunities may potentially be addressed by the LG V30 when it comes out next year.

LG may be thinking of an entirely new design for one flagship lineup as speculations suggest that the upcoming V30 will be missing its ticker display, a signature feature in the series.

According to noted tipster and early leaker Evan Blass, he has in his possession some of the early renders for the upcoming LG flagship. The tipster hinted that a new design may be featured in the LG V30, as Blass teased, "I will say this: adieu, ticker."

However, it may be that the ticker may just be re-arranged on the front panel of the upcoming flagship and will be much more prominent in the LG V30. Blass followed up his original statement with another tweet, saying, "Language is just so important. Found it interesting that many publications mistranslated this as 'ditching the secondary display.'"

The ticker display is a secondary, smaller screen on top of the main display for the LG flagship series. The feature has been one of the signature innovations for the LG V10 launched last year. When the LG V20 made its debut recently, the ticker display is also one of its main features, sitting on top of the 5.7-inch screen. The ticker display is akin to the edge notification on the Samsung Galaxy S- edge series, as the LG V20's ticker screen can also be customized to display notifications, feedback, and other functions.

Meanwhile, as to when fans can expect the LG V30, it is too early to say. However, the South Korea-based tech giant generally sticks to a year-long cycle before it refreshes its lineups. With the LG V20 being recently launched in October, it can be expected that the follow-up will come out around October 2017.

As for the current-gen flagship in the series, the LG V20 has been expanded as a full lineup. The new LG flagship now has a smaller, 5.2-inch display variant called the V34. Although the new addition has a smaller display, it retains the same flagship specs of the LG V20, meaning the new iteration runs on Snapdragon 820, 4 GB of RAM, and comes with Android Nougat 7.0 right out of the box.
