As a series, "Longmire" has certainly exceeded the expectations of most people. The show had a strong fanbase after being released before it was cancelled and was back on air again.

It is definitely unexpected for Netflix to give the series a try, which pretty much ticked off some of its older viewers, but it did not trouble them and they kept watching "Longmire" anyway. However, while the show had a fairly decent following on the streaming site, it seems that its time is over as it is getting cancelled after its sixth season.

According to Cinema Blend, the fifth season of the show was just released a little over a month ago so it will take a while before the sixth and final season will be released. In the report, Netflix has stated that it will only have 10 episodes produced, and it is scheduled to be aired sometime during 2017, but it is presumed to be next fall.

Even the show's cast and crew recently just notified a few days ago that the show was getting renewed, which certainly sparked some worries among them. Now, it seems that the worse has been realized as Netflix usually announces the renewal of the series within the first few episodes of the current season.

Meanwhile, according to Netflix Life, fans took the news in a more or less bittersweet fashion, since a lot of them are sharing the sentiment that the series should have more seasons. Sadly, nothing can overturn Netflix's decision to wrap up the series and end it while the show is still  on a high note.

"Longmire" is based on the New York Times best-selling novels in the "Walt Longmire Mysteries." The show was developed from the books into a TV series by Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny, where it first premiered on A&E back in 2011 before getting cancelled. Netflix then picked up the series for an additional three seasons.
