"Longmire" finished its fifth season last September, and the installment marked the drama's second run on Netflix after it got canceled by A&E in 2014. But fans will have to say goodbye to the show once again as the series was picked up for a sixth and final season by the streaming service.

In a statement (via Variety), executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny said, "We are grateful to Netflix for the opportunity to compose a closing chapter for these beloved characters that inspires lasting memories. Most importantly, we're committed to delivering a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to our fans that rewards their longtime loyalty."

Series stars Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips and Robert Taylor reacted to their show's renewal, and Taylor, who plays the titular character, took to Facebook to thank fans for their support.

"I'm so pleased that we will get the chance to give our show the ending it deserves," Taylor wrote, adding that author Craig Johnson will "never be done" writing the "Walt Longmire Mysteries" novels which the series is based on.

"I kinda like to think the old Sheriff will always be out there somewhere," he continued.

Sackhoff took to Twitter to say that she's happy that "Longmire" will get to ride for one more season, while Phillips retweeted a photo of the cast and crew of the series.

There is no word yet on whether the series has started production on season 6. Meanwhile, fans are unwilling to let go of the show that easily as a fan took to the "Longmire" Facebook page to say that there are rumors of a spin-off, adding that an entire show about the people on the reservation would surely gain the support of avid "Longmire" fans.

The show's other followers immediately got on board with the idea, with some saying that Phillips could reprise his role as Henry Standing Bear. However, it was also pointed out that the producers, along with Johnson, may not want to have a show without Longmire, and it remains to be seen whether there is any truth to the spin-off rumor.

"Longmire" season 6 is slated to premiere in 2017 on Netflix.
