Lorde, the New Zealand singer-songerwriter, performed her hit single "Royals" at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards tonight.

The 17-year-old received four Grammy nominations this year, including Song of the Year for "Royals", Record of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album for "Pure Heroine."

Prior to her performance, the young artist said she couldn't fathom a Grammy performance. "A year ago, I couldn't even think that this could happen, and here I am, so hopefully it goes well."

In 2013, Lorde's hit single "Royals" topped Billboard charts for nine weeks. She told Billboard, "I do not want to get my hopes up in any way, but I would be pretty psyched to win a Grammy. I'm excited for everything that will go along with the day -- seeing a bunch of my friends, dressing up, performing will be really fun. ... It sounds like prom on 'roids or something."

Lorde graced the cover of Rolling Stone magazine for its January 2014 issue. Her work has been praised by many notable artists, including Elton John, David Bowie and Katy Perry.

Music's biggest night kicked off live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET.

Other performers lined up for Music's Biggest Night include Beyonce and Jay Z, Madonna, Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney and more.
