A beloved church elder, who was mom to three children, has been gunned down in her house in the early hours of Easter Sunday. Erica Farley, 41, went to bed that night expecting to be in her Detroit church in the morning, but a violent attack resulted in her death.

Farley's family and friends gathered to honor her on Thursday. Her husband, Khalid, told the press that he's still seeking answers to his wife's unexpected death.

"I just know whatever happened it shouldn't have happened and whoever did this, I don't think they knew what they did," Khalid said. "They took a real big piece of a lot of people's life away," the husband added.

Khalid and the three kids -- Jasmine, Keisean and Kenyon -- want closure and justice from this tragedy.

Farley's pastor at the Until Christ Returns Church, Raheem Warren, also addressed the unknown murderer via the press and said, "Ask God for forgiveness."

On Friday, Warren posted on Facebook to commemorate what would have been Farley's 41st birthday.

Authorities, however, have yet to catch the perpetrator. Police investigations revealed that whoever shot Farley fired from the rear window of her home on Balfour Road in Detroit.

The bullet hit Farley on the back of her neck and emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene. Meanwhile, bullets also hit an unidentified 38-year-old man who is currently in a serious condition.

People who knew the victim said that she had a deep faith in God and tried to help women who were hurting. Farley actually worked in Voices With A Purpose in her community, which is a mentorship program for women.

The family opened a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her funeral. Her body still lies in state at the Trinity Chapel Funeral Home until Thursday, April 12 and her memorial service will take place the following day at the Spirit & Truth Christian Ministries.
