It appears that Apple has a lot on its plate this year, as the Cupertino-based tech giant is rumored to be unveiling the updated versions of their current iPad, iPhone, and MacBook models soon. Particularly, the company is said to be shifting its focus on launching new entry-level MacBook laptops, which include a 13-inch MacBook with Retina display. Interestingly, this entry-level MacBook could be cheaper than the Mac Air upon its launch at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this June.

As reported by Tech Radar, Apple is preparing its latest entry-level MacBook, which will be introduced at the WWDC 2018 to be held at the San Jose headquarters in California on June 4. It is expected that the mass production of the new MacBook units will begin in early May. The highlight of this new Mac laptop is the 13.3-inch Retina screen panel, supplied by LG Display. This is the same display panel used by the current generation of MacBook Pro with 2,560x1,600 pixels resolution.

In spite of the fact that the MacBook 2018 is getting a Mac Pro display feature, the laptop is still expected to maintain its entry-level cost. Rumor has it that the upcoming MacBook will get the same price tag as the current MacBook Air. To note, the Mac Air model is priced at $999, which is already the cheapest MacBook available from Apple. Interestingly, the MacBook 2018 could potentially replace the Air series altogether, according to Engadget, as the laptop will provide all the necessary hardware upgrade from the current MacBook Air.

The MacBook Air has not received a major hardware refresh in year, discounting the one time that Apple decided to slightly increase the RAM capacity of the 13-inch Air laptop. The Air model is stuck with a USB Type A port and outdated computer processor. With this, it is expected that the MacBook 2018 will come with a USB-C port and a Touch ID sensor.
