Many MacBook Air fans are patiently waiting for a new model of the laptop, but Apple's lack of announcement leaves many to speculate that no 2016 version is coming. Meanwhile, fans may consider the latest offering from Xiaomi, which is similar-looking to the MacBook Air.

Neurogadget reported that Apple may not release the MacBook Air 2016 because the company is focusing on other products. The lack of leaked information also justifies this theory. However, many are still hoping that the day will come that Apple will surprise everybody, hopefully this year.

It is also suggested that the company may discontinue the 11-inch model of the Air series and will concentrate on the 13-inch and 15-inch models. This is due to the fact that the 12-inch MacBook is thinner and lighter than the current 11-inch Air model.

It is speculated that the upcoming model will be carrying USB Type-C ports, which will support Thunderbolt 3. It will then be powered by a Skylake processor, loaded with the upcoming macOS Sierra, and could possibly be featuring Touch ID, NFC chips and wireless charging.

Meanwhile, Apple fans wanting to have an updated laptop that looks familiar can take a look at Xioami's MacBook Air killer. It bears resemblance to the Air's aluminum construction and tapered edge, and it comes with an 11-inch model, Tech Radar reported.

According to Benchlife.info, which originally posted the specs, it will come with a Intel Core i7-6500U processor, clocking at 2.5GHz for its base speed, while turbo speed is pegged at 3.1GHz. Its thermal design power is rated at 15W.

Memory is said to be at 8GB and will come with the Windows 10 operating system. It is also rumored that it may arrive with a Linux OS. A USB Type-C port is said to be coming with the lightweight laptop. A touchscreen may or may not come along, according to rumors.

It was listed on a Chinese retailer's website and is being offered for £550, around US$730, for the 15-inch model. The MacBook Air 11-inch variant goes for US$899.
