Deals and discounts on the current models of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro hint on the imminent release date of the successor.

One of the indications that the successor of a device will come soon is the decrease in the price of the current models. The timing for the discounts for Apple's laptops seems to be perfect, and somehow in sync with the speculations that an upcoming announcement of the 2014 versions of the devices will happen in a few days.

U.S. retailer Best Buy, for example, decided to prolong the student discount for MacBook Air. Students with .edu email addresses can avail of this discount that will knock off $100 from the original price of the laptop. Best Buy posted the following steps in order to take advantage of this deal.

Step 1. Follow this link to Best Buy's College Tech Page.

Step 2. Enter your .EDU email address into the field and submit (Best Buy promises not to spam you).

Step 3. You'll then receive an e-mail from Best Buy asking you to confirm your email address. Click the "Confirm Now" button in the email.

Step 4. You'll then receive a second email from Best Buy titled "College Tech Savings." It will include several coupons, including the MacBook and iPad coupons.

Step 5. You can then print those coupons and bring them to a Best Buy retail store, or return to Best Buy.com to shop online and then apply the "Promotional Code" listed alongside each coupon when you check out.

The retailer also offers $50 off on the current models of the iPad line. It is believed that new iPads are on its way this month.

Meanwhile, Apple authorized reseller MacMall gives exclusive discounts through tech website AppleInsider that will slash from $100 to $400 off the price of the laptop. The big discounts can be achieved by combining the coupons as well as the standard discounts given by the retailer.

Latest reports claim that MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 2014 will be released with OS X Yosemite on Oct. 21. According to rumors, the new MacBook Air will pack a 12-inch Retina display with Quad HD screen resolution. The laptop will also be available in three color variants – space gray, silver, and gold and will also have USB Type-C port. MacBook Pro Retina, on the other hand, will reportedly be equipped with a touchscreen feature and better battery capacity.
