Russian Premier Maria Ostrov (Angela Gots) may be one of the casualties in the explosion that shocked the world in the midseason finale of "Madam Secretary."

CarterMatt reports that the promotional photos for the upcoming episode show President Dalton (Keith Carradine) and Elizabeth (Téa Leoni) alive after the harrowing ordeal. If Russia is trying to renege out of the peace talks, as it will reportedly happen in episode 11, it becomes more and more certain that Ostrov died when the unknown military man launched an explosive toward the departing cars of the two world leaders.

The synopsis for "Unity Node" reveals that Elizabeth will be tapped by the administration to salvage the pact that Dalton and Ostrov signed in Geneva. The POTUS was successful in blackmailing the Russian to sign the deal after he threatened to give incriminating evidences of her involvement in her husband's death. Ostrov had no choice but to agree with the demands of the Americans, namely to restore the fuel supply to Eastern Europe.

The "unexpected turn of events" that may end the peace deal may have something to do with Ostrov dying. Russia will not take it kindly that their leader was killed after attending a conference with the U.S. president. They will think that a conspiracy to take her out is at work, and that Dalton has been planning to kill Ostrov all along. If such is the case, Elizabeth has her work cut out for her, as she will be facing one of the most difficult tasks in her career as Secretary of State.

Will she be able to save the situation? Dissolving the agreement may mean an outright war between the two countries. And where is the Ukrainian president that was supposed to be included in the meeting? Is Ukraine behind the attack on both Dalton and Ostrov?

"Madam Secretary" will return on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
