Christian Aid Scotland hopes July march will highlight impact of climate change on developing countries.

The head of Christian Aid Scotland, Gavin McLellan, hopes the charity's Cut the Carbon march will raise awareness of the impact of climate change on developing countries.

The march will pass through Scotland for two weeks from 15 July 2007 and stop off in Edinburgh for a rally on Saturday 21 July.

"It is easy to get upset, and rightly so, about the effect of climate change on wildlife - we are good at that in this country," said McLellan.

"But it can be harder to get the public's attention about the immediate effect of climate change on people who are living in the developing world.

"These are the people who are most affected by the changes in the environment but who are the least able to withstand the problems that these changes have brought about.

"Christian Aid believes it is an issue that cannot be ignored. It is a matter of morality."

G8 nations met in Germany last Thursday to discuss climate change with developing countries including Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa.

German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel said the G8 wanted to assuage fears in developing countries that they will be left to carry the greatest burden in the international effort to accommodate climate change.
